A Complex Satan in John Miltons Paradise Lost :: Milton Paradise Lost Essays
Miltons Complex Satan in Paradise Lost   Miltons Satan continues to fascinate critics largely because he is more complex than the Devil of the Christian tradition appears. Satans rebelliousness, his seeking of transcendence, his capacity for action, particularly unconventional action, endeared him to certain types of ideas, even if their viewpoint might be considered theologically misleading. Milton often follows the road of intellectual definition for his characters, of reasoning demonstration. This serves well his theological and intellectual cohesiveness. However, when his thought becomes more conceptual rather than metaphoric, it falls trap to its own special kind of static imprisonment. Most of the images in Paradise Lost, however, have a substantial life of their own they are properties rather than metaphors.   In the demo of Satan, Milton is dealing with a special difficulty. He is not presenting a human intelligence, but an angelic one-a being the nature of w hich is almost impossible for the human mind to grasp. Milton simplifies the matter by making spiritual intelligences more highly subtile versions of human intelligence. He is still left with one problem, that of introducing a flaws in this refined beings. Because of these refined intelligence, these creatures should incline solely to good.                     So farwel Hope, and with Hope farwel Fear,                   Farwel Remorse all Good to me is lost                   Evil be thou my Good                                     (IV, 109-111)   In this intensely dramatic statement, Satan renounces everything thats good. His is n ot a lack of intelligence, or weakness of character, very simply an acceptance of evil. It almost justifies C. S. Lewis observation. What we see in Satan is the despicable co-existence of a subtle and incessant intellectual activity with an incapacity to understand anything.   Although the statement Evil be thou my Good, makes no sense on the surface, it has a symbolic meaning as an expression of Satans will to reject the hierarchy of values set before him. In doing so he creates an illusory world that reflects his adopted values, which he accepts as reality. His reality is based on hatred. His hatred makes him psychologically dependant on that he hates, thus making it all the greater. end-to-end the epic Milton dramatizes this dependence among the devils- even the hatred that gives them their energy is based on that reality which

The Three Major Issues in the Advertising Campaign for Coca Cola Classi
The Three Major Issues in the Advertising Campaign for coca plant Cola incorruptThe three major issues in this commonplaceise campaign for Coca-Cola Classic are to increase the number of people who drink Coca-Cola Classic, make our advertising more creative, and to ultimately beat our competitors. Our target market can be explained in just one word, everyone. Since Coca-Cola Classic had been around for many years everyone has comprehend of it. It does not matter what age, race, religion or what kind of financial status you energize. The main thing that we need to do, is to take back all told of the people that our competitors spend a penny taken away from us over the years. Though we do have great customer loyalty we postulate to increase the numbers. Whats wrong with cosmos the ultimate best? Nothing and that is exactly what we are going to accomplish with this campaign. For our advertising I want to make several different advertisements using all of the media that is availa ble. I want to have fun and exciting advertisements for our youngest audience, with lots of colors and maybe even a popular child cartoon character the likes of Sponge Bob Square Pants for example. For our young adults I want to have advertisements that promote drinking Coca-Cola Classic instead of alcohol. I want to sharpen a television commercial showing kids having a party and instead of drinking beer or liquor they are drinking Coca-Cola Classic, and still having a serious era. Now, for our older audience I want to back them back to how we use advertise. Since they have been with us and watched our company grow for so many years I want our advertising to them to be more sentimental and recreate some of the advertisements that we use to use. Seeing things that you remember from the past, like a great Coca-Cola Classic advertisement, brings a good and warm feeling to a lot of individuals. I would also like to send out notices for direct mail to everyone just reminding them how g ood Coca-Cola Classic is and encourage them to rush out and go get one.Situation AnalysisJohn Stith Pemberton (1831-1888) the inventor of Coca-Cola was a druggist. At the age of fifty he heady that he wanted to become part of scientific history, and he wanted to make a fortune. He wanted to invent the perfect medicine and give way a drink so that he could mix both of them.He had learned about the coca plant and how the natives of Peru and Bolivia... ...e are many objectives that I want to accomplish. Get customers attention, hold their attention, introduce them to our new slogan, and tell everyone why coke is better. Since we will have a new slogan I want our public relations person to send out mailing notices to our carriers allowting them know. This way we can have new signs put up. I also want to have coupon at the front when they buy a coke they will get $.50 off of their drink. I only want the coupon to be legitimate for a week. EvaluationI want our carriers to let us know how many coupons they redeemed when their customers purchased a Coca-Cola. I also want a stocking newspaper from them to see if sales increase or stay about the same. I think that if we mail out surveys also to random houses asking when the last time they bought a Coca-Cola was and how they like our new approach. With this we will send them a free pen and pad once it is returned to us, as a thank you to them. I am very confident in this advertising campaign, but this is your company and if there is something that you do not like or something that you think should be added please let me know. I look forward to doing business with Coca-Cola Classic Company.

Billy Budd Essay example -- essays papers
Billy Budd Herman Melvilles Billy Budd, crew member is evidently an extremely dissentious text when one considers the amount of dissension and dissension it has generated critically. The criticism has essentially focused around what could be called the dichotomy of acceptance vs. resistance. On the one devote we can read the reputation as judge the slaughter of Billy Budd as the necessary ends of justice. We can read Veres condemnation as a necessary military action performed in the clear of preserving the political order on board the Bellipotent. On the other hand, we can read the story ironically as a Melvillian doctrine of resistance. Supporters on this impel of the debate argue that Billy Budds execution is the greatest example of injustice. They argue that the execution is a testament of denunciation, deploring the shallow political order of a paranoid military regime. I do not wish to argue either side of this debate. I have pointed it out to illustrate that Bill y Budd, Sailor is a text about principles of right conduct, or at least this view is held by critics. Is Veres conduct right or wrong? This is the prefatorial question at stake. In this sense it is a text about honorable values and estimable conduct. However, considering that Billy Budd, Sailor is an ethical text, what I realise most curious about it is the mysterious absence of the emotion guilt. Here we have a story about two murders. Billy obviously kills Claggart and Vere (Although it is indirect, in the end the decision is his) kills Budd. Neither of these murderers shows the emotion of guilt in the form of remorse. For a narrative which tries so thorny to situate the commentator in an ethical and moral position of choosing interpretations, isnt it somewhat ironic that the cha... ...g or resisting an ethical dilemma is perhaps a hash out point. The ethical thrust of the story could possibly be to indict mans insatiable need to punish and requite injuries through errone ous means. As Nietzche seems to think, we may unhesitatingly assert that it was precisely through punishment that the instruction of the feeling of guilt was most powerfully hindered. If we conceive of the text of Billy Budd, Sailor as situating the reader for an alignment with this viewpoint, then perhaps the reader gags at the death of Billy Budd not for the seemingly unfair and unjust killing of a sympathetic character, however instead for its illustration of a social ashes inherently disjointed at its foundation one which doesnt make sense considering human nature, and one which is so inextricably linked to union that it is doubtful that it could ever, or will ever, be changed. Freedom of speech :: essays research papers
